John S. Hogg, M.D. earned
his medical degree from the Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas, and
completed his residency in Diagnostic Radiology at Emory University in Atlanta,
Georgia. Dr. Hogg is currently a
radiologist and partner with Austin Radiological Association and works with 14
hospitals and health centers while serving as the Radiology Medical Director at
4 separate hospitals during his tenure. Additionally,
Dr. Hogg has served on the Seton Cancer Committee and currently serves on the Institutional
Review Board with the University of Texas.
Dr. Hogg was elected as
the new President of Mexic-Arte Museum’s Board of Directors, beginning with the
2009-2010 season. Committed to service,
Dr. Hogg is also a board member of the Hispanic Scholarship Consortium and
People’s Community Clinic. He supports
the Human Rights Campaign Foundation, AIDS Services of Austin, American
Gateways, Art House, Equality Texas Foundation, Project Transitions, and has
served on the 2009 Fete Production Committee for Ballet Austin.

Lulu Flores is Of Counsel
to Hendler Law, P.C. of Austin, Texas, but she is also very involved with
Hispanic community outreach programs through the Hispanic Bar Association,
leading causes such as the Women’s Advocacy Project and Battered Women’s
Centers, and supporting mentoring programs for young and underprivileged women. In addition to her work in the community, she
is also President of the National Women’s Political Caucus, a
member of the Board of Directors of Leadership Austin, and she was appointed in
2006 by the Mayor to the Leadership Council of CreateAustin, an arts and
culture blueprint for the city.
Lulu joined the
Mexic-Arte Museum team ten years ago as a member of the Capital Campaign Steering Committee – September 2009 marked the end of her 5th one-year term
as President of the Board. With her exemplary leadership, the Museum
has been designated as the “Official
Mexican and Mexican American Fine Art Museum of Texas” by the 78th Legislature, signed an agreement with the Mexican
government’s National Council for Arts and Culture, and voted by Austin citizens for $5 million bond to build a new facility
and expand the Museum's capacity to meet the growing educational, cultural, and
artistic needs of Austin's diverse communities.

Annabelle Arteaga is an organizational Psychologist
in Austin, Texas, who runs her own consulting business, A2 Consulting and
Resources. Prior to working with business organizations, she had her own
Clinical Psychology practice working with families, individuals and groups for
12 years collectively in Colorado, Arizona and Texas. Annabelle currently
serves as a member of the boards of the Girl Scouts-Lone Star Council,
Mexic-Arte Museum and the Young Professionals Playgroup, an auxiliary
fundraising group for the Austin Children’s Museum. She is a speaker for
GenAustin’s (Girls Empowerment Network) Speakers Series and for the Hispanic
Mother / Daughter program of the Junior League of Austin and is active in other
non-profit and professional organizations.

Luis Patiño was most
recently appointed to Vice President and General Manager for Univision
Television’s KAKW Ch.62 and KBVO Ch.51 in Austin, Texas. Luis began his broadcast career back in 1997
in San Francisco, California working for the Univision National Sales office. Prior to the move to Austin, Luis worked for
the Univision flagships stations in Los Angeles, California, and for the Univision
Affiliate in San Diego, California. While
in San Diego, Luis served on the Board of Directors of the San Diego Ad Club
and was the Chairperson for the Hispanic Marketing Council (2003-2005). Luis also served on the Board of Directors
for the San Diego Hispanic Regional Chamber of Commerce.
In addition to serving
on the Mexic-Arte Museum Board of Directors, Luis currently serves on the boards
of Austin Ad Fed, the Hispanic Scholarship Consortium, the Austin Lyric Opera
and is a trustee for the Long Center for the Performing Arts. Luis is a native of Los Angeles and currently
lives in Rollingwood, Texas with his wife of 9 years, Liliana Garcia-Patiño,
18-month old son Andres and his 5-year old daughter, Daniela.

Holly H. Sparkman is managing
partner of Sparkman Consulting Group LLC (SCG), a public accounting firm
offering financial reporting, tax, valuation and business advisory services to
individuals, businesses and nonprofit organizations. Prior to
establishing SCG, Ms. Sparkman served as chief financial officer for over
15 years for public and private companies operating in international
markets. Her public accounting experience includes tax and audit
specializations with KPMG Peat Marwick. Ms. Sparkman is a certified
public accountant and a graduate of Texas A & M University. She also
serves on the Board of the Hispanic
Scholarship Consortium, a nonprofit
organization that seeks to increase the enrollment of Hispanic students in
colleges and universities.

Gavin R. Villareal is a
partner in the trial department of Baker Botts L.L.P. His practice focuses on complex business
litigation and state and federal appellate work, with an emphasis on
professional liability. He regularly
advises some of the largest accounting firms in cases involving audit and
consulting issues. Gavin has held leadership positions in
numerous professional and community organizations, including the Austin Young
Lawyers Association, the Hispanic Bar Association of Austin, the HBAA
Charitable Foundation, the Mexican-American Bar Association of Texas, Volunteer
Legal Services of Central Texas and the Harvard Club of Austin. He was born and raised in San Antonio but has
lived in Austin since 1990.

A
native of Laredo, Dr. Frank Cardenas received his degree from the
University of Texas at Austin. This was followed by Medical School
at the Universidad Autonoma de Mexico (UNAM) where he
obtained his Degree in Medicine. He then completed training in
Internal Medicine from the Thomas Jefferson School of
Medicine affiliate Hospitals in Philadelphia, PA, followed by a Fellowship
in Nephrology from the University of Tennessee in Memphis. He practiced
Internal Medicine and Nephrology in Longview, Texas until his retirement in
2006. Since then he moved to Austin and has been doing Consulting work in
his Specialty.
During his tenure as a Physician in Longview, Dr. Cardenas was featured
in the newspaper column "People Who Make a Difference in Our
Community" and was active in various medical organizations,
serving as Medical Director of several dialysis centers. During that
time, he was also active in several non-profit organization service boards,
including the Longview Chapter of the National Kidney Foundation, the Longview
Symphony, and the East Texas Council of Alcohol and Drug Abuse. Currently, Cardenas divides his time between
Austin and San Miguel de Allende Mexico, where he keeps a second home.

Lolis Garcia-Baab is
a talented bilingual communications professional – having lived in
both Mexico and the United States – with a wide range of television and radio
experience as a producer, writer, journalist, correspondent, and voice-over
talent. A mother of two wonderful children and wife of 12-year NFL veteran Mike
Baab, she is a business and community leader, and she is also a graduate
of the University of Texas at Austin, with a Bachelor of Science degree in
Broadcast Journalism, Magna Cum Laude, and a Bachelor of Arts degree in
Political Science.
Lolis is currently
making her mark through The Ladies Room With Lolis and doing voice-over talent
work for clients such as Southwestern Bell, Bank One, and Taco Cabana. During her time away from Austin, she worked
as Executive Producer of the March of Dimes Telethon in Cleveland, Ohio and
Washington, D.C., and she became owner and producer for the World Entertainment
Network in Cleveland, Ohio. Today, Lolis
is active in the Austin community with organizations such as the Women’s
Symphony League, Ronald McDonald House, Juvenile Diabetes Foundation, Junior
League Sustainer, and Kappa Kappa Gamma Alumni. She was also a finalist for the
Mentoring and Inspiring Women in Radio 2007 and 2008 contest and was selected
as a mentor speaker at the 2008 National Association of Broadcasters Radio
Conference, sponsored by American Women in Radio and Television.

Born and raised in
Mexico City, Omar Flores currently works at 3M Austin as Business Development
Manager. Since 1997, he had worked at
3M Mexico where his jobs included Marketing Manager and Business Unit Manager,
among others. Since Omar moved to Texas
in 2005, he has been an enthusiastic ambassador of the Mexican culture. He also serves on the Steering Committee for
3M HOLA (Hispanic Group for Leadership Advancement) and on the Arts Committee
for 3M Austin Community Relations Council. In addition, Omar is co-founder of MOC Adventures, specializing in
designing unique travel tours to Mexico.

Ana Lilia Salinas was
born in Alice, a small south Texas town. She received a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in 1986 and a Master of
Science in Bilingual Education in 1992 from Texas A & M University in
Kingsville, Texas. Presently, Salinas is
a restaurateur and an art teacher in Austin, Texas. Her accomplishments include participation in
the 2008 Austin City Hall exhibition, a juried exhibit with over 1,000 entries. She has exhibited her work at Mexic-Arte
Museum and at the MACC (Mexican American Cultural Center) in Austin, Texas. Salinas also exhibited her work at MACLA (Movimiento
de Arte Cultural Latino Americano) in San Jose, California.
In 2007, Salinas
exhibited her work at the Craft and Folk Art Museum in Los Angeles, California
and at the Deloran Gallery in St. Charles, Illinois. Her work has
been selected to be a part of both the Latino Art Collection and the Chicano
print collection at the University of Texas at San Antonio. Her most recent work (2009) is a
collaboration with artist and educator, Deborah Kuetzpalin Vasquez of San
Antonio, Texas. The work includes a 9 x 14 ft. clay mosaic of the Aztec moon
goddess, Koyolxauki.

Rosa
Santis,
born in Ayacucho, Peru and raised in Lima, earned a B.A. in Government and Economics
with high honors from the College of Liberal Arts at The University of Texas at
Austin. Since then, she has been the owner of Pedro S.S. Services Inc., contributing tremendously to Mexic-Arte Museum and
the East Austin community. One
of Rosa’s first contributions to the Museum was a complete refurbishing of the
original wooden floors in the main gallery.
Rosa has also been a great supporter of the Museum’s largest annual fundraiser,
Taste of Mexico. Combining her love of cuisine
and her desire to offer a quality service to the community, in 2002 Rosa started Taco Sabroso to provide jobs for workers in her construction business
whom she couldn’t afford to keep on the payroll during tough economic times. Her main company, Pedro S.S. Services Inc.,
provides underground utilities installations and repairs to companies such as
AT&T, Atmos, Encore, and Timer Warner in the greater Austin area. When the weather is inclement and her service staff is unable to work, they
provide a free service to neighborhoods in need by cleaning alleyways and
clearing brush and trees. Rosa has also overseen the remodeling of dozens of
homes in East Austin with the mission of preserving the original architecture.

| Charles Stuart is
Divisional Vice President of Government Relations for BCBSTX and has been with
the company 7 years. He also is
responsible for overseeing the Community / Public Relations department and the
Caring for Children Foundation’s Care Van Program staff. Prior to joining Blue Cross he spent 8 years
as Associate Commissioner of the Texas Health and Human Services Commission and
3 years as a Special Assistant to the Texas Commissioner of Insurance.
Before his 11 year
period of state service, Charles served as a lobbyist for both physicians and
hospitals. He was a Vice President with
the Texas Hospital Association and later represented the Texas Society of
Psychiatric Physicians working closely with the Texas Medical Association.
His association with
health care began in 1977 when he accepted the position of Director of Public
Relations and Social Work for Wadley Regional Medical Center in Texarkana,
Texas.
He holds a Bachelor of
Arts degree in Government from the University of Texas at Austin and is active
in support of the community including board membership on the Corporate Council
of the Long Center for the Performing Arts and the Corporate Council of Texas
CASA. He is also an active parishioner
of All Saints Episcopal Church in Austin, Texas.

As President of ISI Consultants,
Inc. (ISI), Hector Torres is responsible for the overall management of the
firm. ISI is an information technology consulting firm, based
in Austin, Texas with a national scope. It has been in the market for over
eight years and has provided small, medium and enterprise organizations with
various products and services to meet their business objectives. Prior to working at ISI, Hector has
worked on a variety of projects as a computer programmer on mainframe systems
to designing and implementing network infrastructures for Fortune 500
firms.
Managing an information technology
consulting firm and its clients does not limit the amount of time and effort
the company partners can place on giving back to the community, which assisted
in its development over the years. Outside of ISI, Hector Torres has served as
Chairman of the Minority Business Enterprise Input Committee for the Central
and South Texas Minority Business Council (CSTMBC)
and as its liaison to the National Minority Supplier Development Council (NMSDC). Recently Hector, on behalf of ISI Consultants, accepted the President's
Award and the Business Enterprise of the Year Award from the CSTMBC, a regional
non-profit organization, for their efforts in the central and south Texas
business community.

Co-Founder and Executive Director of Mexic-Arte Museum has been
with the organization since its incorporation in 1984. She received her
B.F.A. in Fine Arts from The University of Texas at Austin in 1978 and
completed
course work for an M.F.A. in Fine Arts from the Autonomous University of
Mexico in Mexico City in 1983. Among many other honors, in 2007, Sylvia
received the prestigious Ohtli Award from the Instituto de los
Mexicanos en el Exterior of the General Consulate of Mexico, and in 2009
was selected for the Austin Arts Hall of Fame. She also serves on the
Board of Directors for the Mexican American Cultural Center and on City
of Austin Mayor Lee Leffingwell's Community Cabinet.

Responsible for strategic development activities related to the Museum's
growth and development. Prior to this position, Frank was a business
owner for a firm specializing in financial and business planning for
both the private and public sector. He also previously worked for the
City of Austin as the City’s budget director. Frank started his public
service career after completing the Urban Studies Graduate Program at
Trinity University. He currently serves as the Treasurer for the Travis
County Healthcare District, in a volunteer appointed role.

Currently develops curriculum for the Museum's Education Outreach program and administrates the Community Youth Development contract. In 2005 and 2009 she received her B.A. and M.A. in art history from the University of Texas at Austin. During that time she collaborated with several arts organizations such as the Serie Project and curated exhibitions the for the Benson Latin American Collection, Mexic-Arte Museum, and Mexican-American Cultural Center. Recently, she curated Mexic-Arte Museum's 15th Annual Young Latino Artists Exhibition, Consensus of Taste.

Directs promotion and marketing campaigns, develops the membership
program, coordinates events, and assists with fundraising. After
graduating from Carnegie Mellon University in 1998 with a B.A. in
History and Public Policy and a minor in Film and Media Studies, she
moved to Austin, Texas to pursue writing, filmmaking and music. She
worked as a violin shop manger and received an M.F.A. in Creative
Writing from Texas State University, while playing in several bands.
Before working at Mexic-Arte Museum, she co-edited Wiley’s Way published
by the University of Texas Press, taught writing classes, and worked in
non-profit development. Currently, she serves as the Vice President of
Communications for Austin Friends of Folk Art and Contributing Writer
for TacoJournalism.com and the monthly TODO Austin, and she works on
independent film projects.

Jesus is responsible for designing and coordinating the development of a
wide range of electronic and printed graphic materials. After
graduating with a B.S. in Electrical Engineering from Illinois Institute
of Technology in 2002, he started a business in South Texas doing web
and graphic design for a number of industries including legal, real
estate, pageants, music, tourism, fitness clubs, and pro bono work for
the Catholic Church.

Melissa is one of the coordinators for Mexic-Arte Museum’s Education
Outreach program. She serves as an ambassador between the Museum and
community organizations and schedules guided tours for school-age and
adult visitors. Melissa also assists in the Museum Store with finances
and administrative tasks. She graduated from Texas State University with
a B.A. in Communication Studies and Spanish.

Responsible for setting up and maintaining exhibits at the Museum, which
includes prepping the gallery and framing/matting artwork. He has held
this position since December 2008. James received his Bachelor of Fine
Arts in Studio Art from The University of Texas at Austin. After he
graduated he was a press assistant at Landfall Press in Santa Fe, NM,
where he continued to learn lithography and etching. His studios are
located at Okay Mountain Studios and at Slugfest Printmaking Workshop.
His artwork has been featured in the 14th Annual Young Latino Artists
exhibition at Mexic-Arte Museum. He recently illustrated a children’s
book titled Beans a la Charra.

Anna DesOrmeaux is a Store Associate for Mexic-Arte Museum. She earned her B.A.
in art history and psychology and her M.A. in art history from
Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge. In her graduate studies, she
focused on Late Medieval and Early Renaissance art and wrote a thesis
titled “The Black Death and Its Effect on Fourteenth- and
Fifteenth-Century Art.” Previously, she was a framer and gallery
assistant at Ann Connelly Fine Art in Baton Rouge and she was Art
Administrator for Austin’s Serie Project, a non-profit organization
dedicated to serigraphy. She is currently an Adjunct Assistant
Professor in both the Visual Communication Department and the Art
Department at Austin Community College. In addition to teaching and
keeping the Museum Store tidy, she occasionally volunteers for the
Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. |

Justin Balleza is
the Production Associate at Mexic-Arte Museum. On the weekends he is
responsible for supervising museum volunteers, maintaining museum exhibits, and
assisting volunteers and store associates with special projects. He regularly
assists the Production Manager with changing exhibits and maintenance, and also
works special events. Mr. Balleza has also taught classes for the museum’s
Education Outreach program. Justin graduated from the University of Texas at
Austin in May of 2009 with a Bachelors of Fine Art in Studio Art, concentrating
on painting and drawing. |
